DOD Housing Website Gets Upgrade

A new, official Department of Defense website, homes.mil, is being launched Dec. 29, 2014 to provide service members, their families and DOD civilians access to rental listings.

This website replaces the familiar Automated Housing Referral Network which the DOD no longer sponsors.

Homes.mil will provide public access to landlords, owners and property managers for use in marketing rental properties to service members, families and DOD civilians who are seeking
housing at their assigned location. It features search and display options, as well as Google Maps, and will allow users to save listings, view photos and research housing areas.  Members will be required to register in order to access listing addresses and landlord contact information.

The Air Force remains fully committed to providing members access to safe, affordable, adequate and non-discriminatory housing, and will continue to provide referral and relocation services through electronic, telephone and face-to-face customer interaction.

Installation housing offices will manage available rental listings using a housing referral system that interfaces with homes.mil and streamlines housing office support actions by allowing housing office professionals to view or add amenities, cities, points of contacts and inspection updates.  Members and their families should contact or visit the military housing office if they have questions or require assistance with rental listings or with using the homes.mil website.

The Air Force housing public website, www.housing.af.mil, is still available and provides a venue for members to obtain specific installation information on family, unaccompanied and privatized housing.
