Team Buckley pays tribute to Air Force Birthday

BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Buckley Air Force Base commemorated the U.S. Air Force's 67th birthday during a celebration Sept. 18 at the Panther's Den on base.

The celebration began with remarks regarding the success of the Air Force from Col. Mitch Stratton, 460th Space Wing vice commander, and ended with the Airmen with the most and least amount of time in service cutting the cake.

"It's hard to think within 67 years such incredible changes have taken place from where we're at as a country," Stratton said. "We've come a long way and made a lot of strides in the short time we've existed."

The modern day Air Force became a separate military service from the U.S. Army Air Forces on Sept. 18, 1947. From 1947 through today, Airmen have been bound together by warrior ethos, core values and an innovative approach to problem solving.

"We didn't become the world's greatest Air Force by accident," said Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force James Cody. "We got here through 67 years of American Airmen breaking new terrain and lifting us to a higher level. We should celebrate that innovation this year, and we're counting on you to continue this legacy for years to come."
