Buckley competes in Tri-Wing Sports Challenge

BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Team Buckley members traveled to Peterson Air Force Base to participate in the Tri-Wing Sports Challenge Aug. 27, which included a variety of sports, camaraderie and a good time.

Buckley was one of three Colorado bases that participatd in the event. The Panthers went head to head against the 50th Space Wing, Schriever Air Force Base, and the 21st Space Wing, Peterson Air Force Base.

The participants of the sports day agreed that it was a good opportunity to experience each others Air Force base and take a break from the normal day to day activities.

"It's great for esprit de corps," said Bobby Padia, Buckley Fitness Center chief of fitness and sports. "It's for morale, for everybody getting out of the office and enjoying competition with other bases, and participating as a big team."

More than 100 Team Buckley members traveled to Peterson to compete and support the Panthers. The sports events included golf, tennis, flag football, bowling, volleyball, ball hockey, dodge ball, basketball, tug-of-war and a 5k run.

"We interact with our teammates, if you will, on a lot of different mission cases," said Col. John Wagner, 460th Space Wing commander. "The fact that we can be here on a competition friendly basis, getting to know each other a little bit better, I think this advances not only our physical capabilities, but our professional contacts, and our ability to really come together as an integrated team."

The day closed with the awards ceremony where the Panthers took home second place in golf, dodge ball and tug-of-war.
