Buckley’s Top 3 cleans, honors Colorado Freedom Memorial

BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. --  The Buckley Top 3 organization took the day to clean up the Colorado Freedom Memorial July 18 in Aurora, Colorado, to pay their respects to Coloradans who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.

As part of a new base initiative, organizations and units from around Buckley Air Force Base will care for the memorial at least once every month.

"We're out here today to clean up the memorial and to pay our respects to those who are on the wall," said Master Sgt. Peggee Larkin, 460th Space Communications Squadron acting first sergeant and organizer of the cleaning session. "It makes me feel really good knowing that we are coming out here and making it a beautiful spot, as well as cleaning up the park for people wanting to come out here and pay their respects, as well."

The memorial site opened to the public May 29, 2000. It is made of paneled glass and stands 12 feet tall and 95 feet long. This was the first opportunity for the base to fulfill its commitment to clean up the memorial.

"It shows that the base is dedicated to the sacrifices that members of the state of Colorado have made and that their sons and daughters will not be forgotten and always remembered," said Master Sgt. Jeffrey Scobee, Buckley Top 3 vice president.
