Blackbeard the Pirate and his crew have invaded Buckley to plunder, search for buried treasure and sing and dance at the base youth center.

Each year the Missoula Children's Theater produces a children's play, in coordination with local youth to encourage learning through acting.

"Theater in general teaches children really great life skills, including self-confidence, speaking clearly and getting in front of an audience," said Jessica Hall, Missoula Children's Theater tour actor director. "Life skills you can use every day."

This year, 44 local youth have worked all week, memorizing their lines as well as learning to dance and sing for this year's production.

"It's actually pretty fun," said Jacob, 13 year old who stars as Blackbeard the Pirate, "I have done this kind of thing before and really liked it."

The play includes pirates, mermaids, crabs, parrots and beach bums, allowing the children to play a large variety of unique roles.

"I'm playing as Peach Fuzz," said LeiAna, a 9 year old girl who stars as Peach Fuzz the pirate. "My crew thinks I am not handy enough, and not worthy, because I am so tiny. This is 100 percent fun.

After a week of challenging rehearsals, the children are excited to show what they learned.

"We will be performing Friday," Jacob said. "It will be an adventurous, fun and exciting play!"

To show your support for these young actors, attend the play this Friday at the Buckley Youth Center, starting at 4:30 p.m.
