460th SCS provides global support

BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- From local networks and communication to maintaining the systems used to defend our country, the 460th Space Communications Squadron provides the service and support required to complete the Air Force mission.

"I don't know of a function on base that doesn't need comm," said Chief Master Sgt. Joseph, 460th SCS superintendent. "Whether it's network connection, telephone or radio, we support it."

The 460th SCS provides the communications backbone on which the 460th Space Wing and the 84 base partners rely.

"The major support we provide include email and SharePoint as the front-end applications that the base sees," Joseph said. "We also provide everything from air traffic control navigation aids, network infrastructure for both NIPR (Non-Classified Internet Protocol Router network) and SIPR (Secret Internet Protocol Router Network) for all of Buckley."

The squadron of more than 200 members supports both the missile warning mission and cyber defense and security by providing support that impacts units across the globe.

"The 460th SCS not only supports Buckley and its 3,000 users, but also plays an important role in national and global security," said Master Sgt. Edwin, 460th SCS client service center superintendent. "Because of our support, Buckley's space mission is able to provide near real-time support of national and theater missile defense and attack operations worldwide."

The impact of the 460th SCS reaches further than Colorado, supporting global operations and defending America's interests.

"With the Air Force's mission to fly, fight and win in air, space and cyber space, we play a big role in that - especially in supporting the primary wing mission of missile warning," Joseph said.
