Tips to stay safe this Halloween Published Oct. 29, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Samantha Saulsbury 460th Space Wing Public Affairs BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- With Halloween right around the corner, remember to keep the safety of yourself and others a priority. Children will be able to trick-or-treat in Buckley Family Housing from 5-8 p.m. Oct. 31. The 460th Security Forces Squadron will be providing patrol throughout base housing to ensure the safety of trick-or-treaters. Here are a few tips to keep safe during the night: Costume design: · Costumes should use fire-retardant materials only · Costumes should be loose so warm clothes can be worn underneath · Costumes should not be long enough to cause a tripping hazard · During hours of darkness, costumes should be made with light colored or reflective materials · Flashlights or glow sticks should be carried or be a part of the costume Pedestrians: · Watch out for vehicles · See and be seen · Travel in familiar areas and along established routes · Teach children to visit homes that are well-lit and never enter a stranger's home · Teach children not to eat the treats until it is inspected by a parent or legal guardian Drivers: · Watch for children darting out from between parked vehicles · Watch for children walking on roadways, medians and curbs · Enter and exit driveways and alleys carefully · At twilight and later in the evening, watch for children in dark clothing For more information contact the 460 Space Wing Safety Office at 720-847-SAFE (7233)
