Buckley to hold on-base exercise Published Sept. 20, 2013 460th Space Wing Public Affairs BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- The 460th Space Wing will host an exercise on Buckley Air Force Base Sept. 24 -26 in conjunction with a Colorado National Guard Civil Support Team composed of Army and Air Force members. The exercise will involve simulated emergency situations to train and assess the performance of base members. During exercise events, the public may witness smoke emanating from the installation, emergency vehicles using sirens and lights, and first responders in biological protective equipment. Buckley AFB places great importance on informing the community of activity that may affect the base and the surrounding population. The military regularly conducts exercises to ensure service members and Department of Defense civilians are prepared to appropriately respond to any real-world incidents. People should not be alarmed by exercise events. There is no threat to the public, and all exercise activity is monitored by wing safety representatives. Because the likelihood is high that people in the vicinity of Buckley AFB will observe emergency response operations, it is important to inform them that all activity is in support of a military exercise. Questions can be directed to the 460th Space Wing Public Affairs office at 720-847-9431 or to the 460th SW/PA on-call representative at 720-272-1003.
