Buckley’s tiny natives require awareness
BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. – A black-tailed prairie dog peeks out of its burrow behind the 460th Space Wing headquarters building. The industrious rodents form an important part of the prairie ecosystem, providing food for a variety of predators and shelter for cottontail rabbits, rattlesnakes and the threatened burrowing owl. Due to their ecological importance, the 460th Civil Engineer Squadron Environmental Flight asks servicemembers and civilians at Buckley Air Force Base not disturb or harass the local prairie dogs.
