Arbor Day

Children from the Crested Butte Child Development Center symbolically plant a tree in recognition of Arbor Day April 23 on Buckley AFB, Colo. Buckley received the Tree City USA award from the Arbor Day Foundation for meeting four core standards of sound urban forestry management: maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and celebrating Arbor Day. Trees can reduce the erosion of topsoil by wind and water, lower heating and cooling costs, clean the air, and provide habitat for wildlife. (Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Luke W.
