2nd Space Warning Squadron receives new commander

Lt. Col. Shannon DaSilva assumes command of the 2nd Space Warning Squadron from Lt. Col. April Wimmer May 11, on Buckley Air Force Base, Colo.

Col. Lorenzo Bradley, 460th Operational Group commander, presided over the ceremony and began the transfer of the guidon between Wimmer and DaSilva.

From her official biography, DaSilva’s previous assignments include, “missile operations crew culminating in Senior Combat Crew Commander Instructor duty, and spacelift range certifications as Range Control Officer and Mission Flight Control Officer providing on-console public safety oversight to the 45th Space Wing Commander for over 20 spacelift missions including flyout of the Space Shuttle and first-ever Falcon 9 NASA Commercial Orbital Transportation Services mission. Lt Col DaSilva also served four years in the National Reconnaissance Office at Aerospace Data Facility Colorado working both flight operations and mission operations.”

DaSilva is now responsible for the primary operations unit within the 460th OG, which continues to operate an over 40 year old, $3.2 billion on-orbit Defense Support Program satellite constellation.
