BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colorado -- On April 26, 2018, the 460th Medical Group will open its new MDG South facility on Buckley Air Force Base, Colorado. This move is part of the Massing the Medics initiative, where all medical services will be moved onto base from off-site locations for the first time since 1946.
"This is the hub where we’ll provide medical support for base operations,” said Maj.Gary W. D'Orazio, 460th Medical Group chief of aerospace medicine. “We support the Joint Force commanders with unit evaluations, courses designed to prevent mental health crises and interventions to improve human performance”
This facility will include:
-The Mental Health Clinic, which is home to a multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals providing both counseling and medical management, targeting a variety of psychiatric conditions.
-The Family Advocacy Program, which offers both maltreatment and violence-prevention classes.
-The Air Force Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment (ADAPT) team, who specializes in alcohol and substance treatment services.
-The combined Flight and Operational Medicine Clinic and Base Operational Medical Cell. The FOMC provides acute and primary care for space systems warriors and active and guard fliers, while the BOMC is the central location to manage occupational health and physical standards exams to military personnel across the greater Denver area. Together, these two teams provide medical clearances for cross training, overseas exams, security clearances, military separations exams, annual preventive health assessments (PHA), mental health assessments (MHA) and many others.
-Bioenvironmental Engineering, which provides gasmask fit testing and occupational shop support to the entire installation. Along with Flight and Operational Medicine, they maintain a comprehensive emergency response capability, able to respond to anything from flight line emergencies, chemical threats, occupational hazards, and mass casualty events.
Other patient-facing capabilities include the Physical Evaluation Board Liaison Officer for medical evaluation assistance, the Exceptional Family Member Program/Special Needs Coordinator for family member relocation support, Medical Records and the Medical Group staff.
