Firework shows still planned for the Fourth of July Published July 1, 2013 460th Space Wing Public Affairs BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- A majority of the local firework shows scheduled for the Fourth of July holiday period are still planned to go on, even with recent fire bans. As of late, only a few areas in Colorado have canceled their firework displays. Aerial fireworks in general have always been illegal for private use in Colorado. "Typically, in the state of Colorado anything that doesn't leave the ground is acceptable. However, on base we've never been allowed any fireworks," said David Herman, Buckley Fire Department assistant fire chief. Herman recommended checking with county websites to determine what is and isn't permitted in the counties. To view county-specific fire ban regulations click here. Although some areas have canceled their displays, Herman said this shouldn't interfere with the enjoyment of holiday. He said there are plenty of other ways to enjoy the day or weekend, by barbequing, having fun in the outdoors or some water activities. People should refer to their city or county websites before making plans to go view the firework displays to ensure the shows are not canceled.
