The Buckley Commissary will be closed Mondays from July 8 - Sept. 30 due to furloughs.

"We determined that Monday closures would present the least pain for our patrons, employees and industry partners," said Joseph H. Jeu, the Defense Commissary Agency director and CEO.

One hundred Buckley Commissary employees will be affected by the furloughs, most taking a 20 percent pay cut.

Jerry Bramell, Buckley Commissary store director, said he felt like his employees have taken the news fairly well. He said his store has been planning for these cuts since talks of a furlough were mentioned about a year ago.

"We have our own EAP, Employee Assistance Program, they can contact and get advice from," Bramell said.

EAP representatives are able to provide employees with credit counseling, how to handle their finances, and they offer a variety of other counseling services. An EAP representative has been present at the store to assist employees with any of these issues and will continue to be at the store periodically.

Bramell said despite the cuts soon approaching "morale at the store has stayed pretty high," and they will be keeping their fingers crossed that an agreement will be reached to eliminate furloughs.

Store hours for the Buckley Commissary other than Mondays will remain the same. The store is open from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. Sunday.

Commissary customers can quickly find out about any changes to their local store's operating schedule by going to www.commissaries.com, clicking on the "Locations" tab, then "Alphabetical Listing," finding their store and clicking on "local store information."
