Col. Dan Dant, 460th Space Wing commander, received an award from Mayor Steve Hogan and Aurora City Council members, June 3, at the Aurora Municipal Center, Colo.

The mayor presented Dant with an award, thanking him for his time and dedication to the community and wished him luck on his upcoming assignment.

"I have only served as mayor for about a year and a half," Hogan said. "But in all of our dealings, as it would relate between the city and the base, never a problem, never a concern, always a response, always an invitation and that is something that we value, and we know that comes from the job that you (Dant) have done."

As commander of the 460th SW, one of Dants involvements with the community included commanding the response efforts to the Aurora Theater shooting. Team Buckley members worked with the Aurora Chambers of Commerce to fly 30 of Buckley's naval members to Illinois to attend Petty Officer John Larimer's funeral as well as paying for 30 hotel rooms.

"I accept this award on behalf of all the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Coast Guardsmen and civilians, nearly 15,000 of them that you treat and welcome and treat them as neighbors in the community here and I accept it on their behalf. So thank you for everything that you are doing for all of our folks," Dant said.
