Staff members at the child development center here at Buckley Air Force Base came together to host Fall Festival Day for youth and their parents Oct. 28.

"The purpose of this event is to provide parents the opportunity to come out and spend time with their children," said Melanie Hatten, caregiver at the Crested Butte Child Development Center.

"We also have numerous activities that the families can engage in that are not stressful," said Cheryl Mee, Director of the Crested Butte child development center, "such as, gross motor activities, fine motor activities, games and face painting."

"This event is open to all different age groups, starting from newborns to about five years old," said Hatten. "This particular event has been going on at Buckley for the past three years.

"This event also is the kick-off for the month of the military family which is in November," said Mee.

"Hosting an event such as this is important to the children and parents, because it provides them with an opportunity for the parents to meet their child's caregivers and teachers," said Hatten. "They also get to see what their children do inside and outside of the classroom."

The CDC staff not only focuses on caring for the children but they help educate them as well.

"Soon the child development centers will be starting an actual teaching curriculum," said Hatten. "We're trying to start this up in December, or at the latest, the beginning of the year."

The CDC is scheduled to host more upcoming events. Any service members of Team Buckley who would like to volunteer or participate in any of the upcoming events can contact the CDC directors.
