Bike safety keeps Team Buckley safe

According to the U. S. Consumer Product and Safety Commission, each year there are about 900 bicycle-related deaths in the United States and another half a million bicycle-related injuries treated in hospital emergency rooms.

This year, the goal is to ensure all of Team Buckley rides safely not only during Ride-to-Work Week but all year long. To help ensure bicyclists keep safe, officials offer the following tips:
- Always wear a helmet
- Wear bright and visible colors during the day and at night
- Avoid biking at night
- If riding at night, equip the bicycle with head- and tail-lights and use proper reflectors
- Keep a lookout for obstacles in the path
- Ride with the flow of traffic, not against
- Be aware of surrounding traffic
- Obey traffic laws
- Make sure the bike is properly adjusted for the rider
- Check the brakes before biking
- Check the bike's wheels; they should be securely fastened
- When biking on base, remember headphones are not authorized
