PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Independence Day is a time to recognize that more than 230 years ago, our Founding Fathers fought to establish a new nation dedicated to protecting "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Please pause to remember those who have sacrificed to make and keep our nation free.
Our goal is for every member of the AFSPC family to have a mishap-free 4th of July weekend. As you celebrate with picnics, barbecues and fireworks, remember safety first. Examine your planned activities and take measures to reduce the risks.
I expect commanders down to first-line supervisors to know your people so you can help them make smart choices over this holiday weekend. Make one-on-one contact with every Airman to ensure you understand their intentions for the weekend. Also make sure they understand your expectations for making good choices.
Airmen and civilians: be good wingmen. Look out for your own safety and the safety of others. Be sensitive to those who may be having trouble dealing with stress in their lives. Remember ACE: Ask, Care and Escort. If alcohol is part of the celebration, adhere to the law and be responsible.
We want to see your AFSPC Family return from this holiday with great memories. Air Force-wide, we must work harder to eliminate safety mishaps and suicides. Let's not leave anything to chance. Have a safe, mishap-free 4th of July weekend.
