A&FRC to host Team Buckley Saves Day Published March 1, 2010 By Olivia Pierce 460th Force Support Squadron BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- Public speaking is often cited as Americans' greatest fear. If you were to poll the nation today, however, the overwhelming response might revolve around financial security. No matter how frightening the course, financial independence is a personal choice. Decisions to pay your bills on time, save, invest and live within your means do not lie with the government or other external forces. They rest with you, and you alone. Sure, the road to financial freedom might be fraught with stumbling blocks, such as divorce, layoffs or career uprooting, but making good, consistent financial choices from this point forward serve as your stepping stones. To assist you in reaching your financial goals and becoming financially independent, the Airman & Family Readiness Center will host "Team Buckley Saves Day" April 7 at the Buckley Leadership Development Center. This one-day event is chock full of financial information, classes, and performances to motivate, educate, and provide tried and true tools for financial success. The event kicks off with a free breakfast at 8 a.m. at the LDC. Patrons can choose between a bacon, sausage or cheese croissant. The president of the Denver Better Business Bureau will deliver the keynote address, followed by a speaker who will present a motivational message. Several financial institutions will set up informational booths, where they will take for questions and free products. Financial breakout sessions begin at 10 a.m. with classes on basic financial management, savings/investing, home-buying, car-buying and identity theft hosted by the Better Business Bureau, ENT Federal Credit Union and the USAA Educational Foundation. Additionally, one-on-one financial counseling will be provided throughout the day by accredited financial counselors. Each participant will receive a sleek portfolio, calculator and book. ENT Federal Credit Union will also raffle off savings bonds. To close the day, Sammy Rabbit, hosted by the Air Force Aid Society, will be providing an energetic, entertaining performance educating children and youth on the importance of savings. Participating children will receive a piggy bank and two age-appropriate financial books for their library. Registration is required. This event is open to all of Team Buckley, including all branches of service, family members, retirees, reservists and guardsmen, Defense Department civilians and contractors. To reserve your seat, call the Airman & Family Readiness Center at 720-847-6681. While you're at it, consider making this a family affair; bring your spouse and register your child for Sammy Rabbit.
