The 460th Contracting Squadron beat the 566th Intelligence Squadron 2 games to 1 to claim the lunchtime wallyball championship on March 27 at the base Fitness Center.

The 460th CONS team members included, Paul Schaum, Louson Ramos, Brian Powell, Kevin Koepke and Matt Duane.

Although they lost, the 566th IS still brought their "A game." The team carried a swagger like no other into the championship game.

"Confidence doesn't describe how we feel about this game," boasted Gonzalo Garcia, 566th IS.

Unfortunately swagger alone couldn't beat the 460th CONS, who beat out five other teams in a bracket style tournament and kept their wallyball championship title from last year.

"Feels like a continuation from last year," said Koepke from the 460th CONS.

The competition grew pretty intense. Everyone brought their best skills to the court. Toward the end, things took a crazy twist as a participant from the 460th Force Support Squadron dislocated his ankle during a semi-final game trying to make a scoring hit.

Despite the unfortunate event, members from the 460th CONS were able to stay focused for the championship game.

"I lost sleep thinking about this tournament," exclaimed Ramos. "We're pumped and ready!"

Twelve units put together 14 teams to participate in the single elimination tournament.

The Fitness Center hosts monthly lunchtime tournaments to promote fitness and esprit de corps for the troops on base.

"We want to give people an opportunity to get out from behind their desks and participate in some friendly competition," said Bobby Padia from the Buckley Fitness Center.

A lunchtime kickball tournament is scheduled for April 30. Call the Fitness Center at 720-847-6679 for more information.
