Buckley names best of the best

BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- The 566th Information Operations Squadron swept the 2007 Annual Team Buckley Awards by garnering all but three of the annual categories during a ceremony held on the evening of Feb. 23.

Similarly, the 460th Operations Group also cleaned house as it laid claim the 460th Space Wing Annual Awards in seven of ten categories.

"I am very proud of all of the nominees this evening," said Col. David Ziegler, commander of the 460th Space Wing. "We have a great thing going at Buckley Air Force Base and the medallions worn by the nominees this evening are a symbol of their achievement of excellence."

Colonel Ziegler said that the medallion is presented to the nominees as a symbol of their accomplishment and that it is given its luster by those selected to wear it. The medallion, he continued, puts the shine on what the base and its personnel do on a day-to-day basis.

"We have a war to fight, we have a base to build," continued Colonel Ziegler. "I am truly proud to serve with each of you."

The tone for the evening was continued through the comments given by the evening's guest speaker, Chief Master Sgt. Cathi Durick, 14th Air Force Command Chief.

"We are asking our airmen to do things we've never asked them to do," she said. "They truly are in harms way."

"As we look at these award nominees, it is clear to see that excellence has become the standard; we can no longer accept standard as the standard.

She continued in her comments that all Team Buckley members were vital to the mission of the Air Force and were deserving of recognition for their accomplishments as well as the accomplishments of Team Buckley.
