Star Performer -- Staff Sgt. Elizabeth Fontenot, from the 460th Military Equal Opportunity Office, is Team Buckley's Star Performer for the week of Dec. 29 through Jan. 4.

Time in Service: Seven years

Duty Title: Military Equal Opportunity Advisor

Hometown: Eureka, Calif.

Hobbies: Anything outdoors, such as the beach, park, hiking etc. And, I love playing with my daughter and reading.

How do your day-to-day duties contribute to mission success?
It's impossible to have mission success without cohesion, communication, standards of practice and tolerance. The Military Equal Opportunity Office, or MEO, contributes to mission success by taking care of the most essential asset -- people.

If you could change one thing about the Air Force what would it be?
I would incorporate formal equal opportunity education and workshops into Basic Military Training and Professional Military Education courses. Military personnel come from all walks of life, understanding those differences and learning how to communicate effectively could improve workplace relationships and potentially bridge the gaps of injustice.

What has been your most memorable experience in the Air Force?
Duty assignments and friendships built. Each base was a new learning experience; the location, culture and mission were one-of-a-kind. Within seven years of service I've also built friendships that will last a lifetime.

Duties, responsibilities, and accomplishments:
I help bring awareness to personnel on MEO policies and procedures through briefings, group discussion, and one-on-one communication.

My ultimate goal is to invoke awareness and self evaluation of individual beliefs and biases, in hopes of creating a work and home environment that promotes tolerance and acceptance.

I also assist personnel to resolve workplace conflict, and I conduct complaint clarifications when MEO policies have been potentially violated. In addition,

I conduct Unit Climate Assessments for commanders to use as a tool to improve the health and welfare of their organization.
