“I will always strive to uphold its powerful meaning for the rest of my career,”

Senior Airman Hope Olson made this vow, after winning the esteemed John Levitow Award, Oct. 5, 2023. Olson, who is a part of the Aviation Resource Management team, at the 179th Fighter Squadron, Duluth Air National Guard Base, Minnesota is a recent graduate of Buckley Airman Leadership School, or ALS, class 23-G.

ALS builds the foundation for courses on military professionalism, combat leadership, supervision, group dynamics and verbal and written communication. To receive the Levitow Award, one must graduate at the top one percent of their class.  This accomplishment highlights Olson’s exceptional leadership and service, while attending the school.

Hailing from St. Paul, Minnesota, Olson has been a traditional guardsman at Duluth, since March 2020. She aspires to pursue a degree in counseling psychology and continuing her civilian job helping children with their cognitive and behavioral development.

Olson expressed immense gratitude after earning the Levitow award.

“I could not have done it without my amazing classmates,” said Olson. “I only wish all of my peers could take home a piece of this award because they are all so deserving of it, and they all embody great leadership qualities.”
