More than 124,000 U.S. veterans from Colorado served our country during the Vietnam War. Their service was honored during a pinning ceremony at Buckley Space Force Base, Colorado, on March 29, 2024.
U.S. Space Force Col. Heidi Dexter, Space Base Delta 2 commander, addressed the veterans and their families during the ceremony.
"Although this pin is small, what it represents is the history and honor of those who served this great nation." Dexter remarked. “To demonstrate our appreciation for those who served, we extend gratitude to our veterans' spouses and families as well.”
Buckley Space Force Base provides support tailored to our veterans needs including counseling services, health care, housing assistance, employment resources and community outreach programs.
According to Dexter, the pin she handed to each veteran represents the 58,000 plus names of their friends, loved ones and family members that are etched into the walls of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C. which was dedicated in 1982.

The Vietnam veteran lapel pin is presented to living U.S. veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time during the period of November 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975, regardless of location, are eligible to receive one lapel pin.
