Nathaniel Garrett 460th Space Wing Office of the Staff Judge Advocate BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- The 460th Space Wing Office of the Staff Judge Advocate is available to help Team Buckley with all of their legal assistance needs. The legal office provides notary, estate planning, power-of-attorney and legal assistance for personal civil matters free of charge to active duty service members, reserve and guard members on orders, retirees, and their dependents. The notary and power-of-attorney services are available on a walk-in basis, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. A power-of-attorney is a document that grants a person's legal authority to another individual, known as an "agent" or "attorney-in-fact". This authority allows the agent to act on the member's behalf. The notary service allows the member to get a document formally executed and certifies the authenticity of the document. From 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays, legal provides estate planning services, including the drafting of wills and advanced medical directives. A will disposes of assets after a death, and also deals with issues such as guardianship of children and funeral desires. Advanced medical directives include a living will, which sets forth your desires regarding end of life treatment and a healthcare power-of-attorney, which appoints an agent to make medical decisions on the member's behalf when they cannot make those decisions. Legal will schedule clients for estate planning services by appointment only. From 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays and from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Thursdays, JA provides legal assistance for personal civil matters. Wednesday times are by appointment only, but walk-ins are accepted on Thursday. The attorneys can assist with a variety of issues including consumer affairs, divorce, probate, landlord-tenant, and more.
