BUCKLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- The 460th Space Wing Equal Opportunity office was awarded the Colonel L. Joseph Brown Award - Equal Opportunity Program as part of the 2014 Manpower Personnel and Service Annual Awards Program.
"It's an honor being here at Buckley," Mooring added. "Reaching this level of success wouldn't of been possible without the outstanding support that we get from individuals here at Buckley and leaders across the wing."
They went up against almost 100 other EO offices in the Air Force, but due to their outstanding contributions and continued commitment to excellence in serving Airmen and their families, they were named the best EO office in the Air Force for 2014.
"I'm excited, honored, humbled because of the knowledge and expertise of the other offices," said MSgt. Crumel Mooring, 460th Equal Opportunity director.
The 460th EO makes sure that Buckley is free from personal, social or institutional barriers that could prevent members from performing at their highest potential.
"The purpose of equal opportunity is to provide equal treatment and employment opportunity," said Tech. Sgt. Lee Smith, 460th EO NCO in charge.
The two Airmen provide service to all of Team Buckley: a population of 3,100 active duty members from every service, 4,000 National Guard personnel and Reservists, four commonwealth international partners, 2,400 civilians, and 2,500 contractors.
The EO Airmen both thanked each other on their success as well as their leadership throughout the year of 2014.
Smith was alone in the office running it by himself for over half a year Mooring said. His dedication and commitment to the mission coupled with the extraordinary support that he had from Col. Wright, Aerospace Data Facility-Colorado commander, and Col. Stratton, prior 460th Space Wing vice commander. His dedication, hard work and long hours paid off, he added.
"I'm at a loss for words," Smith said. "It's been a great, humbling experience."
