Name:  Airman 1st Class Jose Hernandez
Unit:  460th Civil Engineer Squadron
Hometown:  Van Nuys, California
Hobbies:  Hernandez enjoys exploring the outdoors and working with his hands - home improvement, auto work and tinkering with computers.
Unique fact:  In addition to his handy skills, he is also good with his feet. He has been awarded a black belt in two martial arts: Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido.

During his short time here at Buckley Air Force Base, Hernandez has been a standout member of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning shop.  Since his arrival in May 2014, he has contributed to the completion of 741 work orders and 5,500 preventative maintenance hours with an outstanding 99 percent on-time completion rate.  He was a vital team member during the troubleshooting and replacement of two refrigeration units at the Panther Den, which prevented the loss of produce worth $6,000.  Hernandez also played a key role in the replacement of two refrigeration units for the Class Six, saving over $6,000 in contractor costs.  Not only is Hernandez an excellent worker, but he is also a selfless volunteer.  With his vast knowledge of construction and roofing, he was selected to lead a group of 15 volunteers for a local Habitat for Humanity project.   He donated eight hours of his off-duty time along with his technical expertise in order to construct the framework of a home for a needy family.
