The 460th Space Wing Staff softball team won the final game of the season against the 743rd Military Intelligence Battalion team Aug. 20 at the softball fields on Buckley.

The final score of the game was 24-9, making the wing staff team the 2014 intramural softball base champions.

"I think my team is great," said Diante Curlee, the wing staff softball team coach. "I couldn't have asked for a better group of guys. They all taught me something, and I taught them something, I hope. And we ended up pulling out a championship."

Being the underdog of last year's season, the wing staff team felt they needed to show the league what they've got, and that's exactly what they did.

During the final game, the wing staff team consistently had hard hitters and multiple over-the-fence homeruns.

"The entire line-up hit," said Kristopher Coats, wing staff softball team member. "It wasn't a couple guys hitting here and there. It was from one to 11, they were on fire."

The wing staff team was a newly organized team for this season, having time for only one practice before their first game.

"To go from a rag-tag bunch of guys who never played together and come together that quickly is pretty amazing," Coats said.

Despite being a young team, they still had an impressive season with a 16-2 win-loss ratio.

"We're the best offensive team in the league," Curlee said. "All we had to do was hit, and nobody could keep up with us."

The team's plaque is now displayed proudly in the fitness center on base along with a group photo of the team.
