460th Space Wing awarded the Omaha Trophy
U.S. Navy Adm. Cecil D. Haney, U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) commander, provides remarks during an award ceremony honoring the 460th Space Wing at Buckley Air Force Base, Colo., April 15, 2016. During the ceremony, Haney and U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Robert Hinson, Strategic Command Consultation (SCC) Committee chairman (not pictured), presented the 2015 Omaha Trophy, Global Operations category, to Airmen assigned to the 460th Space Wing in recognition of their support of the command’s strategic deterrence mission and their dedication to providing a safe, secure, effective and ready deterrent force. The Omaha Trophy, which was originally created by the SCC in 1971, was presented to the wing in recognition of their contributions to USSTRATCOM's global strategic missions. At the time, a single trophy was presented annually as a token of appreciation to USSTRATCOM's best wing. Since then, the tradition has evolved to unit-level awards that recognize the command's premier Intercontinental Ballistic Missile wing, ballistic missile submarine, strategic bomber wing and global operations (space/cyberspace) unit. This year, a new category was added to include the combatant command's top strategic aircraft wing. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Gabrielle Spradling)
