Mrs. Olivia Pierce beat out nine other contestants during the four-week vocal competition to win a $500 cash prize. "I didn't really think I had a chance because there was such good competition," she said. She said she's been singing for about 15 years, but this was her first competition. In week 1, Mrs. Pierce belted out Shania Twain's "Guys Do It All the Time" to earn her spot with Ms. Leasa Burleson, Army Sgt. Jessica Tabbert, Senior Airman Adam Vera, Staff Sgt. James Alston, Mrs. Laura Berg, Mr. Les Hooper and Mrs. Tara Quick, in the following week's competition. In week 2, she sang "Suds in a Bucket" by Sarah Evans. Mrs. Berg, Mrs. Burleson, Mr Hooper, Mrs. Quick, Sergeant Alston and Mrs. Pierce made the cut to perform in week 3's Motown Night. During Motown Night, Mrs. Pierce purred a Gladys Knight and the Pips hit, "Midnight Train to Georgia." The voting process whittled the number of contestants down to three: Mrs. Quick, Mrs. Pierce and Mr. Hooper. For her performance of "Famous in a Small Town" by Miranda Lambert, she pulled ahead and swept the competition in the Buckley Idol Finale Oct. 31. As for the prize money, she said she's already spent it on a plane ticket to her hometown, Crestview, Fla., for the holidays.
